His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has handed over cheques worth 18 billion to different groups under the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme(UWEP) at a handover ceremony in Kampala over the weekend.
The handover saw a total of 915 youth groups from 26 districts receiving cheques amounting to Shs9 billion while 1,459 women groups from 43 districts also got Shs9 billion. The President urged
The ceremony was also attended by the Hon. Minister of State Minister for Culture, Hon. Peace Regis Mutuuzo, the State Minister for Youth and Children, Hon. Nakiwala Kiyingi and the Permanent Secretry, Pius Bigirimana who represented the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
In her remarks, the Minister Reported that the Ministry has todate under YLP supported a total of 216,366 youth which has enabled them to create self-employment opportunities and enhance their incomes; and under UWEP, 103,768 women across the country. The recovery of the revolving funds under the 2 programmes is commendable with YLP standing at 70% and UWEP at 71%.
