Hon. Janat Mukwaya, the Minister, Gender, Labour and Social Development has today morning (17/03/18) officially opened the one day expo and symposium on the externalization of Labour at Hotel, Africana. The high level symposium and expo has been organized by the Ministry in partnership with the Uganda Association of External Recruitment Agencies (UAERA) and is intended to bring together stakeholders with a view of promoting safe and productive Labour migration.
The opening ceremony was graced by the IOM Chief of Mission in Uganda Mr. Ali Abdi, H.E. The Ambassador of the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Amb. Dr. Abdallah AlQuhtani, The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry – Mr. Pius Bigirimana, the Chairperson UAERA - Mr. Andrew Kameraho. Also present are Members of Parliament, Senior Government Officials, Civil Society, and Members of UAERA among others.
The Minister in her opening remarks emphasized the prioritization of the welfare of the migrant worker which is not negotiable and all stakeholders in the externalization process to ensure this. The Symposium will also hold a high level panel discussion on safe and productive migration chaired by the Hon. Minister.
The Expo is currently ongoing at the Hotel Africana People’s space and is open to members of the public who have an opportunity to interact with labour recruitment companies and government officials.
