The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has handed over motor cycles and computers to Focal Point Persons under the Youth Livelihood Programme [YLP] and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme [UWEP] respectively.
The Mortor Cycles and Computers were handed over by Hon. Nakiwala Kiyingi, the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs at Ministry Stores in Kireka. In total, 161 Motorcycles and 163 computers were given out. The Minister urged recipients of the various equipment to put them to proper use because they will go a long way in facilitating the Local Governments in their day to day work not only for the two Programmes but also in extending service delivery to the people.
The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Pius Bigirimana, in his remarks thanked the Hon. Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development for her continuous lobbying for resources for the two Programmes that has enabled the procurement the equipment. He further remarked that significant progress has been registered in the implementation of YLP and UWEP since it started in FY 2013/14 and 2015/16 respectively. Under YLP, a total of 16,263 projects have been financed, benefiting 195,560 youth, of whom 46% are females. Similarly under UWEP, 5,910 projects have been support to benefit 74,625 women.
Chief Administrative Officers representing the Local Governments were tasked with ensuring the equipment were put to proper use.
