The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has launched the Violence Against Children Survey Report. The report provides nationally representative data to inform policies and programming aiming to end violence against children in Uganda.
The launch, held at Imperial Royale Hotel on 9th August, 2018 was presided over by the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Janat Mukwaya. She was accompanied by the Minister of State in Charge of Primary Education, Hon. Rosemary Seninde, the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Nakiwala Kiyingi, the MGLSD Permanent Secretary, Mr. Pius Bigirimana and other senior officials from both government and civil society.
The US Ambassador to Uganda, Ms. Deborah Malac and the UNICEF Deputy Country Representative, Ms. Noreen Prendiville, also graced the glamourous function.
The Uganda VAC Survey is the first of its kind globally to provide regional level data, allowing for even more targeted programmatic implementation. It includes detailed information, revealing Ugandan children and youth’s experiences of sexual, physical and emotional violence.
The ministry received support from UNICEF, UBOS, Africhild, TPO Uganda, USAID, PEPFAR, among other partners to carry out the survey and its launch.
